Dear AGSL Family:
We are excited for another great year of softball at Amherst Girls Softball League. Great softball, new friends, skill development, plenty of fun, and awesome memories are in store for our girls this year.
We are continuing with the elimination of the requirement for parents to work in our high-quality snack bar, giving them the opportunity to watch their daughters play. We are constantly evolving to improve at AGSL and would welcome any suggestions.
Amherst Girls Softball League is one of the largest girls’ house softball leagues in New York. We have 8 fully enclosed diamonds and a terrific concession stand. We take great pride in our organization as the premier girls’ softball organization in the area. Our house program develops girls, builds team work, and creates lasting memories of fun. Our Lightning and Thunder travel programs offer a higher level of competition. We have Lightning teams at all age levels.
The Aunt Rosie's tournaments showcase extremely talented teams from across the U.S. and Canada. I recommend coming to watch a game or two this summer. Our Lightning teams represent AGSL very well year round and in the Aunt Rosie's tournaments. Last year we had teams from all across the U.S. and some girls were offered college scholarships. The funds from the Aunt Rosie's tournaments help offset the cost of maintaining our fields and help to make house league less expensive.
We are a volunteer run organization, and we appreciate the many volunteers that keep our organization strong. Our volunteers at AGSL take developing our girls very seriously - understanding they are our future leaders. To that end, we would love to welcome anyone that would be willing to join the AGSL Board of Directors. We have several openings. Currently, we have the secretary position open. Please consider joining as we welcome new ideas and ways to improve AGSL. The more people we have on the board, the more perspectives and ideas we can share to allow the league to continue to thrive and grow.
Softball has always been very near and dear to my heart. I have a passion for the game and love seeing the girls continue to exhibit the same passion on the diamonds. I am a former Lightning player. This year will be my 32nd year coaching and my last year as the league commissioner. I feel truly blessed to have coached so many girls over the years and now some of their children too! I have enjoyed being commissioner and I am grateful for all of the support of the board members during my years as commissioner. I am excited for the new commissioner, Julie Styn, to continue to grow the league and make it even better.
This summer is going to be another great season and I am also looking forward to another successful fall season. Our fall season continues to grow each year. I look forward to seeing many of you at the facility. Please introduce yourself when you see me at the fields! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
As an update, the new batting cages are under construction. We hope that they will be ready as soon as possible. We can't wait for all of you to have a chance to use them once they are built. We are also undergoing renovation of all of the infields this spring to make the facility even more amazing. .
Sincerely,
Michelle D. Maccagnano
AGSL Commissioner
